Now more than ever people are looking for ways to save on their bills and live in more energy efficient sustainable ways. Sustainable House Day comes at the ideal time for those who are wishing to learn more about sustainable building practices, design, retrofits and renovations to reduce their energy bills, minimise their carbon emissions and create a more comfortable home. Whether people are looking to buy, build, renovate, retrofit or dream of a future home, there is something for everyone in this year’s program.
Sustainable House Day is back this year for its fourteenth iteration Geelong Sustainability in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong is excited to bring you an amazing weekend of seminars and open houses. Sustainable House Day is being held across the entire weekend of 15th + 16th October, giving people even more opportunity to explore new and innovative ideas and solutions.
On Saturday 15th October we have three in-person seminars covering important topics including ‘Sustainable Homes: Buy, Build & Renovate’, ‘Retrofitting for energy efficiency’ and ‘Going off Gas’ where you will hear from experts in the field, with an opportunity to have your questions answered.
On Sunday 16th October we are showcasing nine diverse open houses across the region, with features including passive solar design, thermal mass, insulation, new building practices, draught-proofing techniques, sustainable products, energy-efficient appliances, rooftop solar, battery storage, straw bale homes and productive gardens. You will have the opportunity to speak with experts and homeowners on site, including architects and solar companies.
Geelong Sustainability Executive Officer, Dan Cowdell, says “This year we really wanted to highlight living smaller and how you can utilise space to create a beautiful sustainable smaller home, providing an alternative option to ‘bigger is better’. Another focus of the weekend is on the transition away from gas and how to move towards an all-electric home. We believe the information, tools and tips we are sharing will support homeowners to feel confident to transition their homes off gas. This is important for the wider transition away from gas to reduce our emissions and move towards a zero emissions future.”
We would love to see you at Sustainable House Day this year, which is shaping up to be another fantastic event for Geelong Sustainability.
Seminars require bookings via our website; tickets are $5 with discounts when booking two or more. Open house day is free access, and you are welcome to attend our amazing houses around the region during their open times.
