Sustainable House Day 2022: Another Successful Event!

Emilie FlynnNews

On the weekend of 15-16 October, Geelong Sustainability ran our 14th consecutive Sustainable House Day event. We would like to take a moment to acknowledge that the event took place on Wadawurrung land, which was stolen and never ceded. We pay our deep respects to elders past, present and emerging.

Throughout the week leading up to the event, we were quaking in our boots looking at the forecast – rain, rain, and more rain. Luckily, the open houses were unaffected by the floods and the weekend of Sustainable House Day 2022 was beautiful.

On Saturday we welcomed over 350 people into The Gordon for our seminar day. We learned a huge amount about renovating, going off gas, and how to buy or build sustainably. The recordings of all three seminars will be available soon to Geelong Sustainability members through our member portal.

On Sunday we had over 1,500 people come through the nine open homes we had across Geelong, Bannockburn, Torquay and the Bellarine. We were thrilled to see so many smiling faces, and were truly blown away by the level of engagement. Loud and clear we heard that the community is passionate about sustainable homes, and are looking to engage trusted sources of information.

We’d like to extend our gratitude to everyone who came to the weekend, whether you came for a single seminar or for every event and open home. Your support is appreciated, and these kinds of events couldn’t happen without you.

We would particularly like to thank all of the amazing homeowners, experts and volunteers who gave their time, expertise and opened their homes to the public; we are so incredibly grateful.

If you would like to watch back the seminars, you can do so through our Member Portal. If you’re not a member, you can join here.

This event takes a lot of planning and preparation, and we’ve already started thinking about Sustainable House Day 2023. Until then, we welcome everyone to join us for our final event of the year, Green Drinks, on December 7, where we will reflect on the year that’s been, and celebrate the group’s successes.
