Having solar power and battery storage at QNH has been a great addition. We now receive either no power bill or a very small one, and the house stays comfortable throughout the year. Participants appreciate the cool air-conditioning in summer, and in winter, the space feels warm and cozy.

Queenscliff Neighbourhood House Energy Efficiency Upgrades
The Queenscliff Neighbourhood House is an example of weather board home style building that has been upgraded for the community to use with solar, battery and energy efficiency upgrades. It is also a good example of where improvements can still be made for further retrofits that could be replicated in your own home. Come and look at the changes made and hear about where more can be done on Sustainable House Day Saturday 11 October 2025.
What was completed on the Queenscliff Neighbourhood House:
An Energy audit which then resulted in a program of works Heating and cooling upgrade, Battery, additional Solar installed and replacement of all lights to LEDs. As a result, the Queenscliff Neighbourhood house has had minimal utility costs since installation (in 2023), and users comfort levels in the building have improved. Users are now warm in winter and cool in summer in the building.
- 9.5 kWh 3 phase smart hybrid Redback battery
- Installation of five 3.5kW Spilt Systems
- Installation of two 8.5kW Spilt Systems
- Installation of an extra 6.88kW of Solar, taking the total of solar on the building to 12.8kW (added to the existing 5.2kW system installed in 2015).
- LED lighting upgrade (replaced all lights (33) to LED’s).
