About the house
Both of our roots are in rural settings and after living in the city for much of our adult life, we were over the moon to secure an epic piece of land in Modewarre back in 2019. It has just taken us that long to get all our ducks in a row to finally be able to build our dream home.
With sustainability rooted in our values, building a sustainable healthy home just made complete sense. The idea of constructing a strawbale home with passive solar design principles was ignited when Bec completed her Permaculture Design Certificate over 10 years ago now.
We have been attending Sustainable House Day open houses across Victoria at differing times since then and in doing so came across Shamus and S O’R Construction strawbale builds through the Geelong SHD. We looked into other builders in the area who also work with strawbale but were sold on Shamus and his team and the beautiful homes they build.
Shamus and Tristan were so personable, knowledgeable, and helpful in the design and build process. They polished up our ideas and we were blown away when the house was rated 10 star energy efficiency.
We are over the moon to now be in the finished product, it feels a bit surreal to be honest. Our home is not only aesthetically beautiful, but it also has a warm, calm, and cosy feel, and with moving in during winter we have been super impressed with the thermal properties!
