We are thrilled to share the success of the Queenscliffe Energy Efficient Homes Program. This fantastic initiative, organised by Queenscliffe Climate Action Now (QCAN) and delivered by Geelong Sustainability with support from the Borough of Queenscliffe, aimed to help residents improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

The goal was simple: to provide expert advice to Borough residents on how to reduce their energy consumption and emissions. This program is a key action under the Sustainable Buildings pillar of the Borough’s Climate Emergency Response Plan.

Residents were given the opportunity to have a detailed energy efficiency audit at a subsidised rate. These audits were conducted by a professional, accredited energy assessor and included:

  • Identifying ways to make cost-effective improvements to reduce energy consumption and save money on energy bills.
  • Enhancing home comfort, especially during the winter and summer months.
  • Making homes more economically and environmentally sustainable.
  • Contributing to the Borough’s Climate Emergency Response Plan goals.

During the in-home audits, an experienced and accredited home energy assessor from Geelong Sustainability, along with a volunteer from QCAN, reviewed various aspects of each home. They provided:

  • An assessment of features that contribute to energy efficiency.
  • Identification of efficiency issues, such as insulation gaps or inefficient appliances.
  • Suggestions for prioritising upgrades.
  • Information on government rebates available.

At the end of the audit, participants received a detailed report explaining all these findings and recommendations.

We are proud to announce that we delivered a total of 54 audits! We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved including all of the residents who participated, Borough of Queenscliffe, Energy Auditor Cal Forsyth of Ephe and QCAN Volunteers: Neil Mathison, Ewa Filipiak, Pauline Parker and Kitty Walker.

This program was a shining example of what we can achieve when we work together for a more sustainable future. We look forward to continuing our efforts to help residents reduce their energy consumption and contribute to a healthier planet.

Stay tuned for more updates on our ongoing projects and future initiatives.
