Join us for an evening of meaningful connection, thought-provoking discussion, and delicious food at the Seeds of Strength Community Dinner. This event is an opportunity to explore how we can build resilience in our communities and food systems as we navigate the complexities of a changing climate.

Over a shared meal, we’ll hear from two inspiring speakers:

  • Dr Rebecca Lindberg: An expert in food security sharing strategies for creating sustainable, localised and resilience food networks.
  • Sam Suendermann: A leader in community resilience highlighting the power of strong, connected communities to face climate challenges together.

The year 2024 brought remarkable progress in climate action, yet it also underscored the challenges we face, from escalating climate disasters to the spread of misinformation and the rise of climate-denier leadership in key nations. Now, more than ever, it is essential to unite as a community to foster connection and resilience. This dinner celebrates the strength of coming together, building meaningful relationships, and empowering our community to thrive amidst uncertainty. Through shared conversations and experiences, we can reimagine how to support one another and work toward a more resilient and sustainable future.

This is a sit down dinner on shared tables, so come with friends and family or come alone and connect with new people- everyone is welcome. Our bellies will be nourished by the amazing food at Common Ground Project.

This event is proudly part of the Sustainable Living Festival, a month-long celebration of events showcasing solutions to the climate crisis and empowering communities to take action for a sustainable future.

Come along to be inspired, learn, and share a meal with others who care deeply about creating sustainable solutions for our community. Together, we can plant the seeds of strength and resilience.

About Common Ground

Common Ground Project is a regenerative farm and social enterprise that promotes food security by creating fair access to locally grown, healthy food.

We exist to empower agency and advocacy by offering an inclusive space for growing, cooking, knowledge sharing, and ongoing community collaboration. We provide hands-on workshops, training and employment pathways through our Food Knowledge programs, which directly support our Food Relief efforts in the Geelong region.

Grounded in regenerative farming, and in recognition of the urgent need for a more resilient food system, we believe that connection to land, food and community can drive real, meaningful social change.

About Geelong Sustainability

Geelong Sustainability is a not-for-profit community organisation and registered charity that supports residents of Geelong and surrounding regions to be more sustainable in their everyday lives. Since our establishment in 2007, Geelong Sustainability has become the region’s leading sustainability group with extensive networks in community, government and business throughout Geelong and the Barwon region. We are recognised for our evidence-based innovative projects, which educate and support our community’s transition to a net zero, circular economy.

Sam Suendermann

Sam fell in love with surfing from a young age, instilling a strong appreciation of the natural world and desire to protect it. A self-prescribed surf enthusiast she grew up on beautiful Wadawurrung Country where she was able to experience the power of an active and connected community. Sam has a community development background with her love of the environment influencing her to focus on climate action and climate justice. Sam is fortunate to have worked in a number of roles mobilising community climate action, including locally at the Surf Coast Shire Council and further afield in the neighbouring Pacific islands of Vanuatu. She is currently working with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation supporting climate initiatives and advocating for Traditional Owner rights in the energy transition.
