IRONS McDUFF ARCHITECTURE – Kim Irons & Brett Stonehouse
Passive solar house design, sustainable architecture, rating systems, local materials, insulated thermal mass, thermal chimneys, operable shading systems
We are a small, diverse and active architectural practice with 50 years combined experience, passionate about bringing passive environmental principles into all our projects. We are adamant, that when considered early in the design process, sustainability principles can be seamlessly integrated and do not compromise other design qualities but enhance them through a more responsive design solution, comfortable internal environment and a smaller, ongoing carbon footprint. Passive principles are those that are inherent to the design such as siting of the building, appropriate landscape and sheltered outdoor spaces, cross flow ventilation, passive solar gain in winter, upgraded insulation, sunshading, low VOC materials, local materials and supply origins.
