Climate Action Drinks – (Via Zoom)
#Turn Off Gas – No Gas Terminal for Geelong !
Help us campaign so this image does not become a reality in Corio Bay!
Gas is a fossil fuel. Gas is NOT an energy transition fuel. It’s now clear that we must stop gas developments if we are to meet our Paris Agreement commitments. As gas prices continue to soar in Australia many households are making the sensible decision to ditch gas and go all-electric.
Geelong Sustainability is very concerned that Viva Energy (Geelong’s oil refinery) is pitching to build a gas import terminal at Corio to be part of a ‘Geelong Energy Hub’. It is also totally inappropriate that the Federal Government’s National Covid Coordination Commission is recommending taxpayers’ money be spent subsidising new gas infrastructure! None of this is guaranteed to reduce gas prices NOR will it help with reducing emissions.
Geelong Sustainability is advocating for Geelong to become a Renewables Powerhouse for the region. Which is why we’re excited our keynote presenter for our August Climate Action Drinks is the highly regarded energy analyst, Tim Forcey.
With a background in chemical engineering, Tim is a Home Energy Advisor, the founder of the My Efficient Electric Home Facebook page and a regular contributor to the Renew magazine. He’s an expert on gas supply-demand issues and supports communities seeking to #TurnOffGas.
Join us as Tim and GS explain:
- why we are seeing a frenzy of gas development proposals
- why Viva is proposing a gas import terminal in Geelong, and what we can do about it
- how we can reduce the demand for gas within our state and your own household.
