The President and committee of Geelong Sustainability invite you to attend our 2019 Annual General Meeting. Please join us to celebrate the year’s achievements and consider what’s next. Our special guest, Peter Allan will share his insights into the consequences of our addiction to fast fashion and how we could transition to a circular economy.

We accept there is a Climate Emergency and that we are in for the fight of our lives. The solutions exist but require everyone to get involved. We’re advocating strongly for a just transition to a low carbon circular economy. We hope you can stay on for dinner after the AGM to discuss the challenges and opportunities.

GUEST SPEAKER: Peter Allan, Director, Sustainable Resource Use

TOPIC: Making Fashion Circular

Since the waste and recycling crisis hit last year, Australians have started to realise that there really is no away. However we’re less aware that because of our love of fast fashion, we’re creating another waste crisis in discarded textiles. Last year, Australians discarded 400,000 tonnes of clothing (about 16kg per person), three quarters of which ended up landfill. Shocking statistics, surely we’ve reached peak stuff! Our guest speaker, Peter Allan, will outline a range of opportunities that would improve waste outcomes and make Australia, even Geelong, a world leader in textile recycling.

FORMAT: Finger food on arrival. Afterwards, please join the new committee for dinner (at your own expense).

NOMINATIONS: Given the scale of climate emergency, we’re keen to enlist more active volunteers. So consider nominating for the GS committee, offering your expertise or joining an action groups (CORE, War on Waste, Green Drinks, Events, Micro Village). Together we can make a real difference! Contact President, Vicki on 0425 802 116 to discuss further. A nomination form is attached here. Nominations close at 6pm on Thursday 21st November.
