On the 25th of November, Geelong Sustainability joined with stakeholders from across our region as Christine Couzens MP officially launched the Community Power Hub Barwon South West.
The Community Power Hub is an initiative being delivered by Geelong Sustainability Group, with funding from Sustainability Victoria.
Guest speakers included Colin Lambie (President, Bendigo Sustainability Group), Vicki Perrett (President, Geelong Sustainability) and Dan Cowdell (GS Committee member). Both Vicki and Dan were instrumental in securing the CPH for the BSW region.
The event also attracted Mayors from across the region, including Cr Bruach Colliton - Mayor of Southern Grampians Shire, Cr Kate Hanson - Mayor of Colac Otway Shire, Cr Ross Ebbels - Mayor of Queenscliffe, Cr Libby Stapleton - Mayor of Surf Coast Shire, Cr Sarah Mansfield - City of Greater Geelong, as well as several representatives from Sustainability Victoria - Janene Trickey, Andrea Pape and Adam Shalekoff. Over 90 people logged into the GS Zoom room to witness this momentous event.
An original musical performance from Will Tait concluded the launch.
With a strong focus on community engagement, the CPH is working with community energy groups across the region to assess and implement community-owned renewable energy projects.
The first project, a 60kW solar installation at the YMCA in Newtown, is well underway with numerous other projects and a series of events and forums planned to begin in the new year. It is an exciting time for Barwon South West!
