In June this year, Geelong Sustainability launched its new social enterprise - GreenLight - to provide a range of professional sustainability services across our region. Given our significant growth over the last five years, our goal is for GreenLight to help support our mission and financial viability. Now we’ve taken the next big step in realising this goal! We've recruited an Executive Officer for GreenLight. The committee was impressed by the number and quality of candidates applying for this part-time position. The selection panel had a difficult task.

We’re delighted to announce the appointment of David Spear as the inaugural Executive Officer for GreenLight. David brings an impressive depth of regional knowledge, business skills, organisational development and design thinking expertise to this inaugural position. He has an Honours Degree in Product Design from RMIT University in Melbourne, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Queensland/Mt Eliza Business School and Advanced Human-Centered Design certification from the IDEO University, USA. David has established and led regional development organisations in Queensland, Canberra and Victoria, including General Manager of the Regional Australia Institute.

David has extensive local connections. In 2018, David created a Waste to Energy Biogrid economic accelerator framework for Barwon Water, now a designated regional priority project for the Barwon South West. He was a Senior Manager at Golden Plains Shire Council and provided strategic planning and regional research for the G21 Regional Plan for the G21 Regional Alliance.

We were pleased that after many years of work-related travel, David has returned to Geelong with his family and settled in Newtown.  His career is now focused on meaningful projects, which aligns well with him becoming GreenLight’s inaugural Executive Officer.

David likes to work with future makers rather than future takers: visionary, progressive leaders determined to make a positive social, economic, environmental or governance impact for a better world.

GreenLight is quickly becoming recognised in the region as a leading commercial provider of sustainability services offering Victorian Residential Efficiency Scorecard Assessments, Thermal Camera Inspections, Solar Feasibility Assessments and Community Owned Renewable Energy projects.

Geelong Sustainability is looking forward to exploring new business opportunities through GreenLight that can hasten our region’s transition to a low carbon circular economy.
