Geelong Sustainability and Common Ground Project would like to acknowledge that our event was held on Wadawurrung Country, and that sovereignty of these lands was never ceded. We pay respects to elders past, present and emerging.
Geelong Sustainability is pleased to be revamping our monthly Green Drinks events, with support from the City of Greater Geelong’s Environmental Sustainability grant. The grant allows us to partner with like-minded organisations and deliver a fun, interactive program.
For our first Green Drinks event of the year, we were thrilled to partner with Common Ground Project (previously known as The Farmer’s Place) in Freshwater Creek. Common Ground Project is a community farm and social enterprise that promotes food security by creating fair access to locally grown, healthy food.
Kicking off the evening, we were lucky to have Fraser Telfer playing some lovely acoustic music. The tone was set for a relaxing event, and guests mingled out in the beautiful gardens while they waited for the presentation and tour to begin.

When the presentation began at 6:00pm, we spent about ten minutes in the beautiful La Cantina Restaurant area, where CEO Felicity Jacob spoke about the history and future of Common Ground Project, including the Food Hub which is in development.
We then split into four groups and were taken on a guided walk throughout the grounds where we learned more about regenerative farming – what it means, how it’s done, and how to get more involved. There were some really great questions asked of our knowledgeable tour leaders, who were more than happy to provide informative answers.

To wrap the evening up, Common Ground Project set up a stall where attendees could purchase many of the produce which had been grown right there on the farm.
The event was a great success, and it was a really lovely opportunity to breathe some fresh air – literally! – into our Green Drinks program.
Thank you so much to our partner, Common Ground Project, for inviting us onto your amazing farm and showing us the ins and outs of regenerative farming. Thank you also to the City of Greater Geelong for supporting the event series, to our volunteers, Board members and staff, and of course, a huge thank you to everyone who was able to attend the evening – we hope to see you at the next one!
