Climate Safe Rooms

What is a Climate Safe Room?

How do you navigate the challenges of rising power bills and more frequent extreme weather events to keep your home comfortable with affordable running costs all year round? The Climate Safe Rooms project has some answers for you!

Delivered in collaboration with CSIRO and the City of Greater Geelong, Climate Safe Rooms retrofitted the homes of 15 local residents to give them a more comfortable living area year round and most importantly an affordable safe haven during summer and winter extremes.

Check this seminar out if you need to support vulnerable family members in the coming years or to stay on the front foot with your own energy bills while making your home more comfortable.

Tim Adams
F2 Design

Tim has 45 years of Building Design experience, specializing in high-performance houses. In 2000 he formed his company, F2 Design, and attained his FirstRate accreditation.

As the BDAV President, he initiated the BDAV 10 Star Challenge in 2010.

A major design achievement was a Canberra house incorporating an adaptation of the 10 Star House “Done Dirt Cheap”. The house successfully accommodated the occupants during winter 2017 without needing to turn on the heating.

The first NatHERS 10 Star house built in Victoria at Cape Patterson was achieved with the Thermal Performance advice provided by Tim and the F2 Design team.

Tim is regularly published in BDAV News, Intersect, Renew and Sanctuary.

Climate Safe Rooms was conceived by Tim and demonstrates how members of the community with health vulnerabilities can be protected in their homes from more frequent extreme weather events.

Awards:
BDAV 10 Star Challenge 2012
BDAV - Ron Pickford Award for Service Excellence 2018
Life Membership - Design Matters National. 2020
