On Wednesday evening (28 August), Geelong Sustainability proudly launched the 2024 Electric Homes Program at the Geelong West Town Hall, continuing its mission to help homeowners to cut energy costs, reduce emissions, and improve the comfort of their homes. The event was attended by an enthusiastic crowd of 150 community members, all eager to learn about the benefits of transitioning from gas to electric living.

The evening began with a Welcome to Country by Kristi Watts from the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, followed by CEO of Geelong Sustainability, Dan Cowdell, who provided an overview of the program’s inclusions and goals. Dan highlighted the success of last year’s initiative and introduced the expanded offerings for 2024.

Each of the delivery partners chosen by Geelong Sustainability to be involved in the program, spoke about their products and services, offering insights into solar, battery storage, heating and cooling split systems, hot water heat pumps, electric vehicle chargers, induction cooktop installations, home insulation, draught proofing and home energy audits. The informative presentations were followed by a dynamic Q&A session, where attendees posed thoughtful questions, and partners provided valuable answers and expert insights.

“The Electric Homes Program is designed to make it easy for homeowners to save money on their energy bills, reduce emissions, switch off gas, and live more comfortably in their home,” said Dan Cowdell, CEO, Geelong Sustainability. “We’ve done all the hard work by partnering with local businesses that offer quality products, excellent customer service and special pricing.”

This year’s program offers a broader range of products and services than last year, ensuring that more households can participate in the transition to a more sustainable, cost-effective way of living. After a successful first year, the program’s return with the expanded offering, reflects the growing community interest in home electrification and energy efficiency.

For those who missed last year’s program, now is the perfect time to get involved in the region’s largest community-led initiative focused on electrification and home efficiency. In addition to the in-person events (with information sessions in Torquay and Colac coming soon), Geelong Sustainability will also be hosting a series of webinars for those seeking more detailed information about the available products and services.
