Join us to explore how together we can invest in our planet!
During this session we will explore the way that individuals can impact emissions and the fossil fuel industry through the way they ‘Invest in the planet’ with a focus on how we utilise our money. We’ll explore how money walks and how money talks and how we vote with our dollar.
This event is a part of Geelong Sustainability’s monthly community events and is acknowledging Earth Day 2023 which champions the theme of ‘Invest in your planet’.
We will hear from a Market Forces speaker around what divestment is, the power of it, and how you can use divestment to impact the climate emergency. Market Forces believes that the banks, superannuation funds and governments that have custody of our money should use it to protect our environment. Not damage it. Their work exposes the institutions that are financing environmentally destructive projects. They help the community to hold these institutions accountable, and prevent investment in projects that would harm the environment and drive climate change.
As individuals we can often feel overwhelmed at the complexity we face with the climate crisis and wonder how we can make a difference. Exploring divestment and what your money supports is a simple and easy way to make a difference, from where you bank, to your superannuation fund and other investment avenues can play a major role in the health of our planet.
