Type: 6.5 star, 17 sq double glazed
After making the switch to live on the Bellarine, Irene purchased a block of land from her now next door neighbour and was lucky enough to get the pool thrown in, so had to design the house around the pool. Craig from Balanced Design Studio was the inspirational Designer. The brief was to build within a limited budget, using sustainable principles for energy efficiency and also accommodate Irene’s wishes to have a house built on stumps and a genuine wooden floor.
The main living area captures the sun and looks out on the pool. Passive solar works well with the bedrooms at the back making a restful sleep area and the main bedroom facing East to catch the sunrise. The Pool creates its own microclimate and the pool fence is a trellis for growing passion fruit. The floors are rustic black with a well insulated subfloor. The windows are double glazed and lovely bifold doors open onto the deck bringing the outside in. The raked ceiling in the living area provides a wonderful sense of space. The house also features a 5kW solar system, a water tank to top up the pool, reverse cycle air conditioner, ceiling fans in each room and matrix board which has a good thermal index.
The builder Jim Poulson, allowed and encouraged Irene to be involved in the building process. Irene now enjoys the the house all year round, why go anywhere when you can enjoy a luxury lifestyle at home!
