Family excursion with Field Nats to Pt Henry
GS Member Special Event – Sat 19 May, 12-4pm
The Geelong Field Naturalists Club has extended an invitation to Geelong Sustainability members to join them in their weekend excursion to Point Henry.
This free family friendly half-day event provides members will a very special opportunity to participate in a guided walk and discussion about this environmentally sensitive area.
WHEN: Saturday 19 May 2018, 12.00-4.00pm
MEET: 12.00 noon at the picnic area near the old weather station at the end of Point Henry Road for lunch
BRING: Picnic lunch, drinks, snacks and dress appropriately for weather (plus binoculars if you have a set)
RSVP: Bookings required, register online before Wed 16 May.
The future for the Point Henry area remains unresolved but they will discuss the current ideas for the area as well as exploring the salt marsh and shoreline around the point. Since Alcoa shut down in August 2014, no effluent water has since entered the adjacent wetlands, which has caused dramatic changes to the vegetation and landscape. The excursion will visit the saltmarshes overlooking Corio Bay and Stingaree Bay and finish with a look across the old salt pans of the Cheetham Salt Works.
