What we do?

Life Learning is affordable, community-driven, fun education in Geelong.

We host informal classes for curious people looking to try something new without a hefty price tag! Our classes are an affordable $12 (+materials if required) with a discount for GS members.

All of our course topics are dreamed up under the One Planet Living Principles of Health & Happiness, Culture & Community and Sustainability.

Topics like life skills, language, craft, sustainability, food, psychology, science, social issues, art, dance, literature, music, DIY, gardening, design, philosophy and relaxation are on our ‘to do’ list.

Most of all we encourage people to learn interesting ‘new stuff’ in a fun, social environment.

We are also open to suggestions for classes.

What are classes like?

Classes will run for 1.25 hrs in cafes, bars, galleries and other vibrant spaces. There will be a maximum of 20-25 people so it creates a fun learning environment and social vibe. Many of the classes will be interactive and there will be an opportunity to meet new people simply by learning a new skill.

Every class is totally different. Some of our teachers are pros at what they do, some are hobbyists or enthusiasts; it’s just about sharing knowledge they are excited about.

No matter what the class or who is teaching, our classes are laid back, fun, and participatory. Your involvement in class - whether through discussion or something hands on - is what makes it all the more enjoyable.

Please Note: Classes are for adults only.

Who can teach?

You just need a passion for the topic and a desire to share it with others.  We assist with the planning, take care of sign ups and marketing so you can focus on the important stuff of just inspiring others.

The idea is to offer informal classes to curious people wanting to learn something new!  It is a place to experiment with topics, hobbies and new ideas.

  • Life Learning - Yes You Can Draw...Amaze Yourself!

    What’s it all about?

This is a casual drawing class for you to easily learn how to master drawing basics with shortcuts.  When we draw we take an opportunity to slow down and to appreciate how the visual world works. Reclaim the lost art of drawing that you enjoyed in your childhood. You will be amazed at how much you can learn in 75 minutes.

    What will we cover?

You will learn picture design and picture planning short cuts.  You will understand how to convey 'something' in your art work - including brief drawing exercises for conveying emotion and avoiding drawing errors.  You will plan and prepare the mock up for your mini 'masterpiece' that will inspire you to keep creating.  You will be using pencils and acrylic paint in this class, so bring an old shirt to protect your clothes.

    Who will be teaching?

When Janine Hellard was a kid at school she had some raw artistic talent but she was steered away from art because it would not lead to a career direction that would provide a decent income.

Throughout her years, trying many careers, art was on the back-burner until recently.  Now it is time to share her exploration of creativity and discovery.  She has assisted children through to seniors develop an understanding of how they can maximise their capabilities and produce art works that they both enjoy creating and of which they are duly proud.
