More fun than the same old run!
Bored with walking or running the same old block or treadmill?
This is a fun way to give your body and brain a boost. Try new places and meet new faces.
What’s it all about?
Park and Street Orienteering provides the perfect combination of mental and physical exercise. You do not need a compass or any special map-reading ability. However, it will test your thinking while giving you a great workout in a friendly, safe, outdoor environment.
If you can walk to the local shops, you are fit enough to participate.
What will we cover?
Participants each receive a map with 20-25 pre-marked control points, and a card which is used to record the controls that are located. Controls are positioned on features such as light poles, fences, or trees. All participants start together, and must return to the Finish within one hour, or after locating a designated number of controls. It’s up to you to decide which controls to go to.
Run or walk individually or in a group.
You will be required to meet at 6.40 pm prior to the start of the event at 7 pm so that you can be briefed and issued with your map.
Who will be teaching?
Alan Cooke has many years of experience with Orienteering Melbourne & Geelong. For this Life Learning class we will be joining the regular Orienteering crew to chart our way around the course, meet new people and most of all have some fun!
