Life Learning - Backyard Chooks

What’s it all about?

If you love the idea of raising chooks or already have your own flock, come along!

Backyard-Chickens.jpg

Learn all about our feathery friends, how to keep them healthy and happy and of course laying you an egg-shaped meal every day. Food doesn’t get much more ‘local’ than that.

What will we cover?

We'll be chatting about - what to look for when getting new chooks, chook behaviour, flock management, caring for chooks and ways to improve their health and their pens.  There will be plenty of chances to ask questions.

Some of the topics we'll cover are:

  • Meet a chicken - hands on
  • Breeds
  • Housing
  • Eggs Galore
  • Day to Day Maintenance
  • Food & Drink
  • Health & Hygiene
  • Care & Handling
  • Practical health checks
  • Predators & Pests

This is a family friendly event - children aged 10 and over are welcome. The first child accompanying an adult is free, subsequent children over 10 are $10 each.

Who will be teaching?

Kerrie with her family, has been living with backyard chooks for nearly 20 years.
She doesn't profess to know it all, but has learnt heaps about the ins and outs of backyard chook keeping over many years.
Her practical and hands-on advice will help steer you in the right direction with your own backyard chooks.
