  • Film Screening- Catching The Sun

Please join us for a night at the Pivotonian!

Catching the Sun is about people daring to lead a massive global energy transition that is already rapidly in play. The oil economy has created monopolies and concentrated wealth and power in the hands of the few. Solar power could democratise and decentralise energy in a way that rebuilds the ladder of economic opportunity for workers and entrepreneurs.

Post movie screening a short discussion on Solar projects going and Community Owned Renewable Energy in Geelong will take place. A quick overview of Geelong Sustainability's community focused initiatives will also be given initially before the discussion.

    About the Film

An unemployed American worker, a Tea Party activist, and a Chinese solar entrepreneur race to lead the clean energy future. But who wins and who loses the battle for power in the 21st century?

Through the stories of workers and entrepreneurs in the U.S. and China, Catching the Sun captures the global race to lead the clean energy future. Over the course of a solar jobs training program, Catching the Sun follows the hope and heartbreak of unemployed American workers seeking jobs in the solar industry. With countries like China investing in innovative technologies and capitalising on this trillion-dollar opportunity, Catching the Sun tells the story of the global energy transition from the perspective of workers and entrepreneurs building solutions to income inequality and climate change with their own hands. Their successes and failures speak to one of the biggest questions of our time: will the U.S. actually be able to build a clean energy economy?

Don't miss the chance to witness this insightful movie. Book Your tickets below!

All proceeds from this event will go to Geelong Sustainability to directly support our events, activities, projects and campaigns.

  • Life Learning - Decluttering Mindfully: KonMari Basics

    What’s it all about?

Do you want to declutter your life, live simply and be organised?

    Decluttering.jpg

Can you imagine living a life where you don’t have to spend hours tidying, hours running around searching for stuff that you’ve lost or having to purchase something again because you've 'lost' the original!

Instead imagine a life where you feel absolutely in control, where you feel free to pursue your goals in life. Yep sounds great doesn’t it?

This class can help you on the path to this. The KonMari method focuses on what you want to keep in your life without the clutter. Simplifying your life can help you to create space to achieve all of those things that you long for.

    What will we cover?

This interactive class will introduce you to the basics of KonMari. We will discuss the process and identify some of the personal benefits that can be achieved from working through the KonMari Method. We will even get to practice some of the folding techniques to put you right on track to achieving harmony in your life.

Learn how to go beyond the notion of tidying and start the process of removing from your life all of the things that no longer bring you joy.

    Who will be teaching?

Janine Hendry an interior designer has peeked into many homes. Along the way she has concluded that we are deeply impacted upon by the spaces that we inhabit. The state of our homes can hold us back from achieving what we want in life, and the first stage of creating an inspiring home must come with removing from our homes, all that stuff that no longer brings us joy.

Janine is the founder of A Mindful Home an interior design consultancy that uses the KonMari method to help clients create soulful nurturing homes.

    Any questions?

Please email lifelearning@geelongsustainability.org.au if you have any questions about the class.
