Geelong Sustainability's monthly social networking event - Geelong Green Drinks - is a great way to learn about what's new and happening in our region and to connect with others working in the sustainability sector.
Our next Green Drinks is on Wednesday 27th July, 5.30-7.30pm at Beav's Bar, 77 Little Malop St, Geelong.
Theme: Moolap Coastal Strategic Framework Plan
Knowing the importance of this strategic decision for our region, we are devoting our July Green Drinks event to a discussion of the Moolap Plan.
The redevelopment of this brownfields site is an amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We urge you to get involved and help us protect this environmentally significant area from inappropriate uses such as canal residential housing.
The VIC Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has released its Moolap Plan Discussion Paper proposing various future land use options for the Moolap Saltfields and Pt Henry site. The large and complex study area includes over 1,200 hectares of land and 10km of coastline.
Local environmental groups including Geelong Sustainability received a departmental briefing last week. We will be making a written submission before the 5pm deadline on Friday 29 July.
If you are interested in how similar sites have been redeveloped worldwide, DELWP commissioned Deakin to do an international Case Study Analysis of Relevant Brownfield Redevelopments. Click here for more information or to email the project team.
DELWP wants to receive lots of community feedback and they have set up an online survey. We want you to be informed so you can respond readily - so please come to our briefing and discussion forum!
Tim will explain the 7 scenarios, the decision making process and next stages.
Representatives from the peak interest groups will outline their preferred scenario.
We will have a Panel Q&A session to explore strengths and weaknesses further.
