Inform – Inspire – Connect
We are a dynamic and passionate community group focused on sharing information, building community resilience, advocating for the environment and supporting effective action.
Our mission is to inform, inspire and connect communities to create a sustainable future and to protect our natural environment. Our preferred simple definition of sustainability is enough for all, forever!
Like many socially progressive community groups, we are convinced of the truth in Margaret Mead’s famous quote. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
The science on climate change is very clear and there is no time to lose. We connect and collaborate with people and organisations seeking to create practical solutions and transition our economy.
Please consider becoming a financial member and supporting our mission and activities. Together we can achieve so much more!
Geelong Sustainability is politically independent. However we reserve the option to criticise specific policies of State, Federal or Local Governments and to work with them, where this action furthers our mission. We may also comment on or suggest political action if and when appropriate. For example, to protest about a new coal mine or a coal-fired power station being built.
We are prepared to act as an enabling group to help smaller groups or individuals to start sustainability projects or initiatives in the Geelong region.
GS Rules / Constitution
At our Annual General Meeting in November 2013, Geelong Sustainability Group Inc adopted the new model rules issued by Consumer Affairs Victoria. These rules were updated in February 2015 prior to a successful application to become a Registered Environmental Organisation with DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status. In 2016, Geelong Sustainability became a registered Charity.
