2013 Sustainable House Day - Sunday 8th Sept
GSG is again coordinating Geelong's Sustainable House Day as part of a national day. Planning is well underway for SHD2013.

Sustainable House Day gives people the chance to get a real-life look inside houses that have been designed, and built or retro-fitted with sustainability in mind.  Feedback from past visitors shows how much people enjoy talking directly with home owners and receiving unbiased practical information and suggestions.

GSG is again coordinating Sustainable House Day in the Geelong region.  GSG has a special event team to plan and organise this major event.  We will be working with the national organisers, the City of Greater Geelong, sustainability architects, local community groups and business sponsors.  We’ll also be assembling a team of volunteers to assist home owners on the day.  Specialised sustainability architects will help GSG to select a broad range of both new and retrofitted homes.

If you are interested in sponsoring GSG to help us run this major event or would like to partner with ancillary events then contact the SHD GSG Coordinator, Vicki Perrett at vickip3223@gmail.com   by Friday 12 July.

More information soon.   Keep this day free.

2012 Sustainable House Day - Sunday 9th Sept

Report on Sustainable House Day 2012

In September each year, Geelong Sustainability Group hosts Sustainable House Day in Geelong. In 2011 we had an estimated 1,450 visits to seven homes while in 2012, an estimated 2,500 visits to nine homes. Each year we have a great spread of new and retrofitted homes on display.

Thanks must go to the 65 volunteers, the many architects who volunteered their time and in particular, to Monica Winston, GSG vice-president who took on the vast task of bringing this major event together.

Some of the feedback from Sustainable House Day 2012:

  • Thank you for opening your house and the great day. We thoroughly enjoyed
being involved. - Briony Darcy and Leon Eyck, DE atelier Architects to home owner Jen Hall, Ocean Grove.
  • Congratulations on organising an excellent day - I was thrilled with the numbers of people visiting the Barwon Heads houses - it seemed like most were on a tour of most/all the SHD houses in the region. Excellent! - Anthony Mangelsdorf, Project Manager, Barwon Heads Sustainability Group and volunteer at one of the two houses open in Barwon Heads.
