SUMMARY:Going Out Green: Planning a Sustainable Funeral
DESCRIPTION: For many of us, living sustainably is a lifelong occupation. But can that extend to the end of our lives, and our funeral planning? In this seminar, renowned community educator Libby Moloney looks at natural and sustainable funeral planning choices, from home-based death and family led (DIY) funerals to your rights and responsibilities under the law. Learn about advance care planning, different natural funeral care options and their benefits, including natural burial, shrouded cremation, and burial at sea and body donation. Libby will present an engaging summary of global natural death and funeral practices, together with ways to find out more. Our second presenter Darryl Thomas OAM will take us through the Green Funeral services available at the Geelong Cemeteries Trust including natural burials, green burials and environmental cremations. He will outline the environmental initiatives achieved at the CGT. Learn how to plan for a funeral process that continues your sustainable choices in life. Libby Moloney is the Managing Director of Natural Grace and is a Holistic Funeral Director practising natural, culturally sensitive, family led funeral care. Libby is a founding committee member of the Natural Death Advocacy Network, a not-for-profit organisation committed to demystifying and reclaiming death and dying in our community. Darryl Thomas OAM Darryl has held the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Geelong Cemeteries Trust since 2004. The Trust administers twenty cemeteries and a crematorium that service approximately 2400 funerals per annum and employs a staff of 35. During Darryl’s 33 year association with the Geelong Cemeteries Trust he has gained extensive experience in the selection of cemetery sites, design, landscaping, environmental and heritage overlays, memorial development, staff recruitment and the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety Policies. He was recently awarded an OAM in the Governors Queens Birthday Honours. Seminar held in partnership with the Geelong Regional Library Corporation Geelong Sustainability will be taking bookings for this seminar, to be held at the Geelong Regional Library.
